HISTORY OF NIRMALRANI PROVINCE IDUKKI
"I will make you a light to the nations that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth." (Isaiah 49:6)
The Diocese of Kothamangalam was bifurcated and the Idukki Diocese came into existence on 23rd January 2003. With the formation of Idukki Diocese, it was befitting that FCC Kothamangalam Province also be bifurcated. With the special amendments in the Constitution of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation approved by the Congregation for the Orientation Churches the Nirmalrani Province was born on 2nd August 2004 with 134 professed sisters, 17 religious houses and one residence. The patroness of the newly erected Province is the Queen of Portiuncula our Lady of Angels. Rev. Sr. Ancil was the first Provincial Superior of the newly formed Province. Rev. Sr. Suguna is the present Provincial Superior of Nirmalrani Province, Idukki. As years rolled by, Nirmalrani Family also grew steadily and by 2024, we are blessed with 27 Houses, 194 Members & 11 Candidates.
The daughters of Nirmalrani engage in multiple activities with the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Clare our patron saints and following the early traditions of our founding mothers. In Kerala, we serve the people through various apostolic activities namely: healing ministry, education, rehabilitation centers, and special school for mentally challenged children, hostels for poor girls, de-addiction centre, social work centre and counselling centre. We have Pain and Palliative Care hospice along with the Hospital. We established Nirmal Jyothi Public School in 2004 starting from Pre- Primary up to High School. We help the pupils to imbibe a sound, moral, intellectual, spiritual and physical education with a view to prepare them to take up personal and social responsibility, enlightened leadership, committed to national service and to have a sense of religious and moral principles.
With a very humble beginning in 2004, by the grace of God the Nirmalrani Province now has grown by leaps and bounds. We started a mission station in the rural area in Tamil Nadu State in the year 2022 and since then our sisters have been working there with good spirit and enthusiasm.
In Tanzania mission (Africa) we are highly blessed with 5 houses and 17 sisters. God blessed us with religion vocation and at present we have one newly professed sister from Tanzania. In Tanzania mission, sisters get involved in healing ministry, education, Catechism and service in the parish with total dedication to Jesus.
Our sisters are blooming in Germany. We get involved in healing ministry with full satisfaction and total dedication to God. At present we have three houses and 13 members.
We entrust each and every member of this Province to our Lady of Angels, the patroness of our Province. May our good Lord continue to bless us, guide and protect us always under the shadow of His Wings and cover us with His precious blood.
